Avalon Beach 2107
A suburb on the Barrenjoey Peninsula facing the Pacific Ocean, about 2km N by E of Newport Beach and about 1 km SE of Clareville. This area transferred from Warringah LGA to Pittwater LGA on 16-MAR-92 Boundaries shown on map GNB4094-1 Said to have been coined by an estate agent in the early 1920s. The name is from Avalon in Somerset, England. Accoding to Celtic mythology Avalon was the final home of the heroes of Chivalry. First land grant in the Avalon area was of 60 acres given to John Farrell in 1827. (`Book of Sydney Suburbs', 1988)
